Vitrin Chat
Privacy Policy
In effect from 26 August 2026
The short version
We collect what the service needs to work, and no more. We do not sell your data, we do not use your messages for advertising, and we do not build a profile of you.
Chat AI
Some features read message text with a third-party language model to produce an answer for you: "Catch me up" (a structured summary of unread messages), voice-note summaries, translations and task lists, and drafting a checklist from a conversation. The text of the messages involved — including messages other people wrote — is sent to the model provider (OpenAI) for that one request and is not used to train models. Nothing from a Secret Chat is ever sent. You are asked before the first use, you can turn Chat AI off in Settings → Privacy, and any member of a chat can turn it off for that whole chat; the chat shows who did.
What we store
Your phone number, and whatever you choose to add: a name, a username, a photo, a short bio. Your messages and the media in them, so they can be delivered and stay on your devices. A record of your devices and sign-ins, so you can see and end sessions you do not recognise.
Your contacts
If you allow it, the app matches your address book against Vitrin Chat so it can show which of your contacts are here. The matching is stateless: your address book is not uploaded and not stored on the server.
Calls
Voice and video are carried directly between the participants through a media server. We keep who called whom and for how long, so the Calls tab can show it. We do not record calls.
Verification documents
If you apply for a verified badge, the document and selfie you submit are stored apart from everything else, are visible only to a reviewer, every viewing is logged, and both files are deleted as soon as a decision is made.
Notifications
To reach you when the app is closed we send a push notification through Apple or Google. That means Apple or Google handles the delivery, including the sender name and message preview it shows.
Who else sees anything
Our SMS providers see the phone number and the verification code needed to deliver it. Nobody else receives your data, except where we are legally required to disclose it.
Lawful requests
We disclose data only against a valid legal order, only the specific data the order covers, and every disclosure requires two separate administrators to approve it and is recorded permanently.
How long we keep things
Messages stay until you or your recipient delete them, or until a disappearing-messages timer removes them. Stories are removed after 24 hours. Deleting your account removes your profile, your phone number, your contacts and your settings. Messages you already sent stay in the other person's chat, because their copy of a conversation is theirs; groups and channels you created keep existing for the people still in them.
Your rights
You can see, correct, export or delete your data from Settings. If you are in the EU or the UK you also have the right to object to processing and to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Vitrin Chat is not intended for anyone under 13, or under the minimum age set by your country.
